Before starting the actual article, I want to present a bit of the thinking process of the creator of Microsoft, which says that measuring the progress of programming by the number of the lines is like measuring the progress of an aircraft, taking into consideration the weight of that aircraft. I guess you already know who said that: Bill Gates.

Okay now let's move on to my article and say that the best resource to learn Java is the official Java site. You can access the site over here.

I'm sure that you know the Java logo, but I will leave the mystery of revealing why they use a coffee cup for another article. Right now I want to describe a bit of the site and tell you that this is truly the best resource that you can get online. The tabs that are present on this site are: Home, Projects, Forums, People, Java User Groups. If you register on the site, you can even see your own projects created in Java.

You're also able to see what is happening in the world today regarding the Java technology, what are the communities where you can also join and discuss with another Java passionates, and what are the  Java news. You can get involved in 3 large ways: learn about Java.net, create a project, and see what are the Java.net enhancements. You can get informed in 5 ways: create the articles that are available on the site, read the blogs, check the wiki site, see what are the next event at which you can participate, and see what is all about the Oracle University. While you are on the site, why not answer to some polls?

The poll that is available right now is referring to the Java 7 enhancements and the possibility of using these called into your daily coding. 29% of those who answered this question said that they will start to use the enhancements within weeks, 29% said in a few months, 29% said sometime in 2012 and 14%, years from now. Not even a single person said that he will never use the enhancements.

And now a bit of statistics, the site has 614039 members, 2159 project and 62 new projects. I like very much that this site is not one of those sites filled with ads and commercials, that sometimes stop you from seeing the actual content of the site. In my future article I will present you the steps that are required in order to join the community of Java developers on this site.
